Departmental Activities

2022-2023

  • The Department of Economics Conducted a PPT Competiton on, “Stereotypes in Advertisements”, on 12th July, 2022.
  • The Department organised a Book Reading Session to commemorate the Shikshak Parva on 8th September, 2022, in accordance with the UGC Guidelines
  • Department of Economics with departments of Sociology,and Political Science  jointly organised “New Trends in Tourism”, seminar on 28 th September 2022
  • Guest Lecture Series are as follows:
    • Guest Lecture on, “Financial Frauds” was held on 27th September, 2022 with CA Sailesh Cousik as the resource person.
    • Guest Lecture on, “Solid Waste Management”, was held on 28th September, 2022 with Ms. Surabhi Walawalkar as the resource person
    • Guest Lecture on,”Derivatives Market”, was held on 1st October, 2022 with Mr. Ravindra Phadke as the resource person.
  • The Department of Economics Conducted Debate competition on socio economic issues on 5th December 2022.
  • The Department of Economics organised “Budget pe Charcha”- a students’ discussion on Central Budget 2023 on 4 th February 2023.
  • The Department of Economics organised Industrial visit to Jaipur Foot Industry and Footwear export firm in Agra and heritage tourism in Jaipur and Agra during 9th February 2023 to 15th February 2023.

2021-2022

  • The Department of Economics in Association with the Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics organised a workshop on, “Telling a Data Story”.
  • The Department organised a workshop on ‘Awareness of E-Resources’
  • The Department organised a Guest Lecture on the topic of “ESG and Sustainability”

2020-2021

  • The Department began its activities by organising a guest lecture by Dr. Shagata Mukherjee in association with Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics. The lecture was held on 23rd June, 2020.
  • An Inter- Collegiate online PowerPoint presentation competition, on the theme of depiction of socio-economic issues on Indian Cinema, titled “….And Action!”. The competition was held on the virtual Platform of Google Meet on 5th August, 2020.
  • A workshop on “Excel”, was organised by the department for the students of SYBA and TYBA Economics on 8th August, 2020.
  • The Department of Economics in collaboration with the Department of English conducted a workshop on “Relevance and Impact of Economic Theories in our present life., on 7th January, 2021.
  • Workshop on, “Introduction to R and Statistics with R” was organised by the Department of Economics in association with the Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics on 11th January, 2021.
  • A workshop on, “Basic Excel and Word Tools” was organised by the Department on 18th January, 2021.
  • A debate on “Farm Bills, 2020” was organised by the Department on 27th Janaury, 2021.
  • The Department Organised “Career Focus”- a series of interactive sessions on Careers in Economics on 21st and 22nd May, 2020 for the students of SYBA and TYBA Economics.

2019-2020

  • A short-film screening on the ideas of Human Development was organized for the FYBA students during the induction program on 9th July,2019.
  • The Department organized a PPT Competition for the students of TYBA from 1st July-31st July, 2019. The topics were based on Current Economic Issues.
  • Ms. Madhura Todewale accompanied 10 students of TYBA Economics to the D. T. Lakdawala Memorial Lecture by Prof. Maitrish Ghatak on the topic, “An Inclusive Growth Dividend: Reframing the Role of Income Transfers in India’s Anti-Poverty Strategy”, on 7th August, 2019. The lecture was organised by the Mumbai School of Economics and Public Policy.
  • The Department Organized a Guest Lecture on “Decoding Superstition” by Ms.Vandana Shinde, senior resource person and Thane District Head of Maharashtra Andha Shraddha Nirmulan Samiti, on 21/09/2019
  • The department conducted a 40-lecture short-term course on “Basics of Econometrics”. The course began on 5th November, 2019.
  • 55th A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition was organized by the department in Association with the Forum for Free Enterprise on 29th November, 2019. Dr. Arvind Jadhav and Ms. Vaishali Dhammapathee judged the competition.
  • 10 students of TYBA Economics were taken to the Bombay Stock Exchange for a seminar on, “Financial Markets are Emerging as the Largest Employment Generator in the Country”, on 3rd December,2019
  • Organised an Industrial Visit to Sikkim from 10th January-20th January, 2020. Total 40 students from SYBA and TYBA were a part of the visit.
  • The Department organised a screening of Short Films on “Fake News” in association with MUSE Foundation, on 4th February,2020.
