BVOC (BACHELOR OF VOCATIONAL STUDIES) IN TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY

The UGC has launched a scheme for Skill Development in higher education as a part of College /University education, leading to three year Bachelor of Vocation (BVoc) degree with multiple exits for those who wish to discontinue for any reason. The BVoc program is focused on Undergraduate studies which incorporates specific job roles along with the general education.
As the scope of employment in the Travel, Tourism and the Hospitality sector is very bright having high potentials with varied opportunities, Kelkar Education Trust’s Vinayak Ganesh Vaze college (Autonomous) has designed a Three Year BVoc Degree program in Tourism and Hospitality under the guidelines of UGC. The College has got UGC approval for the same from the year 2018-19, and the course has started successfully from 31st August, 2018. The Maximum intake capacity for the course is 50 students (each batch).
The Vaze BVOC Tourism and Hospitality course contents have been approved by the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council , India (THSC). The system of certification for the skill components is as per the National Occupation standards (NSQF) defined by the Sector Skill Council. Students will be trained on computer reservation system. While the General education components include the curriculum of the normal university standards, and it attempts to provide holistic development of the students.
The course will thus create industry- ready students and also will train students to become successful entrepreneurs , both of which will enable students to make bright careers in this sector definitely.

The duration of the B.Voc (Tourism and Hospitality) programme shall be 3 years consisting of 6 semesters. B.Voc is a programme with multiple exits. Students make exit after 6 months with certificate (NSQF LEVEL 4) or may continue for Diploma or Advanced Diploma or B.Voc Degree level.
College has proposed a syllabus including, General Components and Skill Component papers from Semester I to Semester VI. General Components have 40% weightage of credits in each of the 6 semesters. The General education components include the curriculums of normal university standards and attempt to provide holistic development of the students.
The syllabus of Skill Component in each semester in aligned to Qualification Packs of the selected job roles in the Tourism sector. This curriculum is as per National Occupational Standards (NOS) defined by the Sector Skill Council.
Thus the curriculum of all three years of the programme would be a suitable mix of General education and skill development components.
The programme structure includes-
  • Language studies
  • Soft skills and personality development programs
  • Projects industrial training
  • Study tours
  • Internships

Visiting (In house) faculty from the departments of English, History, Geography, Law, Commerce, Accountancy, Management, Information and Technology, Mass Media, Banking and Insurance, Accounting and Finance and Visiting professional for Communication Skills in French.

EVALUATION AND GRADING OF GENERAL COMPONENT PAPERS

The evaluation of each course shall contain 2 parts-
1. Internal or In-semester assessment (ISA)
2. External Or End- Semester Assessment (ESA)
The credits for the skill component will be awarded in terms of NSQF level certification which will have 60% weightage of the total credits of the course, as per the UGC guidelines.

India In Capsule -Students represented different cultures of Indian states by wearing traditional attire and by enjoying famous cuisine of the state .
Study Tours – 1st December 2018 at Thai festival at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastusangrahalay, Fort, Mumbai – The festival was organised by Thai consulate where students experienced Thai culture- Thai dance, authentic Thai cuisine, Thai art of mask painting and fruit carving etc. It was followed by the visit to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastusangrahalay .
Visit to ‘ Career Vision’ , Training institute based at Thane of the industry and skill parter of Vaze BVoc was held.
Guest lectures -3rd November 2018- Grooming session organised for BVOC students held by Enrich salon.
