2021-2022

  • The Department organised a National Webinar on World Literature and New Literatures in English
  • The Department organised a Two-Day National Level Workshop on Research Methods in English Studies (Language and Literature) (For UG and PG Students and Research Scholars)
  • The Department organised a talk on Indian Cinema: Perspective & Politics
  • The Department organised a talk on The Non Human Themed Open Mic And Poetry National Level Competition

2020-2021

  • Organized national-Level Poetry Competition Lockdown Musings: Phase – I jointly organized by the Department of English and Department of Mass Media in association with industry partner KitabKhana on 31 July 2020.
  • Organized a national-Level Poetry Open Mic Lockdown Musings: Phase – II, jointly organized by the Department of English and Department of Mass Media in association with event partner KitabKhana on 30 August 2020.
  • Organised an online Lecture and Workshop on “Translation: Career Opportunities for Language Graduates” along with Departments of English, Hindi and Marathi of Vaze college for third year undergraduate students of the language departments, conducted by Dr. Rita Kumar, Chief General Manager, Cotton Corporation of India, Belapur on 2nd February 2021.

2019-2020

  • In August 2019, the FYBA Literature students watched “Pride and Prejudice”, while the SY students watched “Byomkesh : The Quill of the Porcupine”, and “The Old Man and the Sea”
  • Students won several prizes in Inter-College competitions and also read their own poems in Open Mics at many events, in August, September, December and January.
  • In November the TY students watched “1984” and “David Copperfield” as part of the learning enrichment programme.
  • TYBA students put up a performance of an adaptation of the Shakespeare play ‘Romeo and Juliet ’, called ‘Romeo and Rosalind’, on 14th February 2020.
  • The Alumni Meet was held on 8th March, 2020, in which 70 students and teachers of the department came from far and near to bid farewell to Dr Susmita Dey who retired as Head.
  • Dr Nilakshi Roy took over as Head from 1st April 2020, though it was effective only from 21st June 2020 due to the lockdown.
