Departmental Activities

2024-2025

  • Department organized an Online Guest Lecture (26 July 2024) -An insightful session titled “Historical Development in Indian English Fiction” was delivered by Dr. Sarika Deshpande Vaze, benefitting 115 students.
  • epartment organized a Play Watching Activity (27 July 2024)- Students viewed Neil LaBute’s play “The Shape of Things”, 11 students participatedunder the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Dinesh Kumar Nair and Mr. Yashodhan Oak.
  • Department organized a Creative Writing Workshop (7 July 2024)- A hands-on workshop on creative writing conducted by Mrs. Riddhi Mukesh Kunjwani engaged 60 students, encouraging literary creativity and expression.
  • Department organized a Cultural Sensitisation Session (21 September 2024)- Ms. Piyusha Mhalunkar led an engaging session on “Cultural Stereotypes”.
  • Department organiseda Community Engagement Programme (23 September 2024)- As part of social outreach, students conducted an English learning session for KDMC Primary School children, impacting 42 young learners under the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Dinesh Kumar Nair and Mr. Yashodhan Oak.
  • Department organised a Workshop on Cultural Diversity (7 January 2025)- Dr. Sudha Krishnan facilitated a workshop on “Cultural Diversity through Multilingualism”, attended by 85 students.
  • Department organised a Guest Lecture under “Legacy Lives” (15 January 2025)- Yashika Sharma guided 43 students through the session “Careers in Ireland and Editing as a Profession”.
  • Department organised a Workshop under “Continuing Connections” (27 January 2025)- Dr. Nilakshi Roy conducted a session on “Understanding Gender in the 21st Century”.
  • Department organised an Industrial Visit to Jaipur (30 January – 5 February 2025)- An Industrial Visit supervised by Mr. Abhishek Shriram& Ms. Neha Shirsat .
  • Department organised an Interview Skills Workshop (6–7 March 2025)- Organized by the Departments of Hindi and English, this workshop was led by Mr. Abhishek Shriram & Dr. Tipu Sultan

2023-2024

  • Department organized a workshop titled Artful Echoes -an Exhibition and Poetry Recitation Session on 15th September 2023.
  • Department, in association with ELA organized Open – Mic Yours Truly Reader on 26th September 2023.
  • Department in association with ELA organized Centrivia – Second Edition of Celebrating Centenary Works on 31st October 2023.
  • Department in association with ELA organized Movie Fest – Devil Wears Prada on 11th January 2024.
  • Department in association with ELA organized Dramafest titled Veritas – from Page to Stage – Twelve Angry Woman on 23rd February 2024.

2022-2023

  • Department organised a One Day Guest Lecture Series on World Literature on 17th August, 2022.
  • Department organised a “Poster Competition and Exhibition” in celebration of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence on 13th August, 2022.
  • Department celebrated annual event Celebrating Centenary Works – INK-stinct! On 23rd November, 2022.
  • PhD Research Advisory Committee (RAC) meeting, Department of English on 24th April 2023.
  • Department organised a Annual Drama Fest Neo-Dionysia on 16th and 17th February, 2023.

2021-2022

  • The Department organised a National Webinar on World Literature and New Literatures in English
  • The Department organised a Two-Day National Level Workshop on Research Methods in English Studies (Language and Literature) (For UG and PG Students and Research Scholars)
  • The Department organised a talk on Indian Cinema: Perspective & Politics
  • The Department organised a talk on The Non Human Themed Open Mic And Poetry National Level Competition
  • The Department organised an event ‘British Literature: Talks on Select Topics from 16th to 18th Century and 20th Century’

2020-2021

  • Organized national-Level Poetry Competition Lockdown Musings: Phase – I jointly organized by the Department of English and Department of Mass Media in association with industry partner KitabKhana on 31 July 2020.
  • Organized a national-Level Poetry Open Mic Lockdown Musings: Phase – II, jointly organized by the Department of English and Department of Mass Media in association with event partner KitabKhana on 30 August 2020.
  • Organised an online Lecture and Workshop on “Translation: Career Opportunities for Language Graduates” along with Departments of English, Hindi and Marathi of Vaze college for third year undergraduate students of the language departments, conducted by Dr. Rita Kumar, Chief General Manager, Cotton Corporation of India, Belapur on 2nd February 2021.

2019-2020

  • In August 2019, the FYBA Literature students watched “Pride and Prejudice”, while the SY students watched “Byomkesh : The Quill of the Porcupine”, and “The Old Man and the Sea”
  • Students won several prizes in Inter-College competitions and also read their own poems in Open Mics at many events, in August, September, December and January.
  • In November the TY students watched “1984” and “David Copperfield” as part of the learning enrichment programme.
  • TYBA students put up a performance of an adaptation of the Shakespeare play ‘Romeo and Juliet ’, called ‘Romeo and Rosalind’, on 14th February 2020.
  • The Alumni Meet was held on 8th March, 2020, in which 70 students and teachers of the department came from far and near to bid farewell to Dr Susmita Dey who retired as Head.
  • Dr Nilakshi Roy took over as Head from 1st April 2020, though it was effective only from 21st June 2020 due to the lockdown.
